AWL Agri Business Imports Record 66,800 Tonnes of Soybean Oil in Single Shipment
Ahmedabad, July 29 (TNT): AWL Agri Business Ltd. on Wednesday said it has imported 66,800 metric tonnes of degummed soybean oil (DSBO) in a single shipment, describing it as the largest single parcel of edible oil ever brought into an Indian port on one vessel.
The cargo, transported from San Lorenzo, Argentina, aboard the MT Bangus, was discharged at Mundra Port in Gujarat and will be refined at the company’s facility in Mundra, the company said in a release here.
The company said importing a large consignment in a single shipment, instead of multiple smaller parcels, helps reduce ocean freight costs, lowers port handling expenses and enables uninterrupted refinery operations with a uniform batch of feedstock.
AWL Agri Business said the operation was facilitated by the liquid cargo infrastructure at Mundra Port, including deep-draft berths, dedicated edible oil pipelines and shore storage facilities, which enabled efficient handling of the fully laden vessel.
The company said India imports more than half of its edible oil requirement, with soybean oil accounting for a significant share alongside palm and sunflower oil.
It said efficient large-scale import operations would help strengthen supply chain resilience and ensure steady availability of cooking oil.
AWL Agri Business said it expects large-parcel sourcing from South America to become a regular feature of its procurement strategy as it continues to optimise imports based on terminal capabilities.
