AP’s Kakinada farmer gets national recognition for water-powered Hydro Lift machine
Kakinada, Aug 24 (TNT): A farmer from Kakinada district has received national recognition for developing a water-powered “Hydro Lift” machine that can lift water to higher levels without the use of petrol, diesel or other fuels.
Pampana Srinivas of Kaikavolu village in Pedapudi mandal was presented with a national recognition certificate by Kakinada District Collector M N Harendhira Prasad at the Collectorate here on Monday.
The Collector said the machine could operate continuously and has the capacity to lift up to 25 lakh litres of water a day to agricultural fields at a height of around 30 feet.
The machine could benefit small and medium farmers, particularly in tribal and agency areas, as it does not require fuel for operation, the Collector said.
Srinivas, who has completed an ITI Fitter course, spent around 10 years developing the machine.
He said the Hydro Lift was first installed on an experimental basis at the Vetlapalem check dam with financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh from KL University.
Srinivas said he was selected as one of 26 grassroots innovators from across the country and received appreciation from the President of India. He also received the “Best Grassroots Innovator” award from Union Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh recently.
He participated in an international competition in Bangkok, Thailand, where he received an appreciation certificate and a medal, he said.
Srinivas said he aims to develop an improved version capable of lifting water to a height of 100 feet and generating 10 kilowatts of power.
Local Government ITI Principal MVG Varma, Training Officer PVRV Sarma and Kaikavolu elder Datla Charan Raju were among those present.
