APEDA Facilitates First Biscuit Export Consignment from Varanasi to Oman Under India-Oman CEPA

New Delhi, June 25 (TNT): The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) on Thursday said it has facilitated the export of a 40 metric tonne consignment of biscuits from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh to Oman, marking the first such shipment from the region following the signing of the India-Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

The consignment has been exported by Varanasi-based manufacturer-exporter M/s Shree Tirupati Balajee Industries Pvt. Ltd., reflecting the growing export potential of processed food products from eastern Uttar Pradesh.

In a release, the Authority  said the shipment represents an important step towards integrating the region’s food processing sector with international markets and expanding the global presence of value-added food products manufactured in Uttar Pradesh.

The authority has been supporting the exporter through various export promotion initiatives, including participation in major domestic and international trade fairs such as AAHAR 2026 and Gulfood 2026, which helped enhance product visibility and establish overseas market linkages.

The consignment will be transported from Varanasi to the Inland Container Depot (ICD) at Kanpur for customs clearance before being moved to Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) for shipment to Oman.

APEDA said the export gains significance in the context of strengthening trade and economic relations between India and Oman under the CEPA framework, which is expected to improve market access and create new opportunities for Indian exporters, particularly in the agricultural and processed food sectors.

The authority indicated that additional consignments to Oman are planned in the coming months, reflecting increasing demand for processed food products from the region.

The first-ever biscuit shipment from Varanasi to Oman underscores the growing capabilities of the region’s food processing industry and highlights APEDA’s efforts to promote exports from emerging agri-export hubs across the country.
