AP: Two Killed, Five Injured as Lorry Hits Auto near Samalkot
Kakinada, May 27 (TNT): Two persons were killed and five others, all women, were injured when a speeding lorry collided with an autorickshaw near Ayidu Thoomula Centre on the outskirts of Samalkot, about 15 km from Kakinada, on Wednesday, police said.
The accident occurred when the autorickshaw was travelling from Matlapalem to Samalkot, while the lorry was proceeding from Thadepalligudem towards Kakinada.
The deceased were identified as autorickshaw driver Veripalli Prem Kumar of Uppada and Gampala Chittemma, a passenger travelling in the vehicle. Both died on the spot.
The injured women, all hailing from villages surrounding Uppada Aminabada, were shifted to the Government General Hospital in Kakinada for treatment. Hospital sources said the condition of one woman was critical.
Samalkot Police registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan reportedly deputed a team of Jana Sena Party leaders headed by Jyothula Srinivas to visit the injured at the hospital and coordinate medical assistance.
Jyothula Srinivas met the injured victims and assured their family members of all possible support. He also handed over ₹20,000 each to the families of the deceased towards cremation expenses.
