AP Kisan Congress Demands Immediate Relief for Godavari Flood Victims

Kakinada, Aug 2 (TNT) :Andhra Pradesh Kisan Congress Chairman Kamana Prabhakara Rao on Sunday urged the State government to intensify relief and rehabilitation measures for people affected by the Godavari floods, alleging that the administration had failed to respond adequately to the crisis.

Speaking to reporters here, Prabhakara Rao claimed that over 20,000 people from nearly 100 villages had been displaced as the Godavari river remained in spate and were awaiting government assistance.

Alleging that the government was preoccupied with arrangements for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit, he said the focus should instead be on providing immediate relief to flood victims.

He demanded that the government set up rehabilitation centres on a war footing and ensure the supply of food, drinking water, temporary shelter and other essential commodities to those displaced by the floods.

The Kisan Congress leader also called for immediate medical assistance in the affected areas, with special attention to infants, children, pregnant women and the elderly.

Prabhakara Rao urged the government to announce a special relief and rehabilitation package for families living in the Polavaram submergence villages and relocate them to safer places.

He further sought compensation for farmers whose vegetable crops had been damaged in the floods and demanded that seeds and fertilisers be supplied free of cost to enable them to raise alternative crops after the floodwaters recede.

Warning of statewide protests, Prabhakara Rao said the Kisan Congress would launch an agitation if the government failed to extend comprehensive assistance to flood-affected people until the situation returned to normal.
