AP: Kakinada to be developed as green city, says Joint Collector

Kakinada, Aug 10 (TNT): Joint Collector Apurva Bharat on Monday called upon people to join efforts to develop Kakinada city as a green city by increasing green cover and protecting the environment.

Speaking to media persons after launching a plantation programme at Vivekananda Park, organised by the District Youth Red Cross and Junior Red Cross, the Joint Collector said intensive plantation drives would be taken up in and around Kakinada over the next three to four weeks.

City MLA Kondababu, Municipal Commissioner NVV Satyanarayana and State Red Cross Chairman Yarlagadda Dasaradha Ramarao, who attended the programme as guest of honour, also participated in the plantation drive and planted saplings.

The dignitaries planted large saplings, each measuring around eight feet in height.

Apurva Bharat, who is also Chairman of the District Youth Red Cross Committee, said the plantation drive was aimed at increasing greenery in Kakinada and transforming the city into a green city.

He appealed to citizens to actively participate in the initiative and contribute to increasing the city’s green cover.

MLA Kondababu said developing greenery and protecting the environment was the duty and responsibility of every citizen. He urged youth to take responsibility for nurturing the saplings planted as part of the drive.

Red Cross Secretary Sivakumar and members of the Youth Wing of the Red Cross participated in the programme.
