AP Energy Minister Pulls Up Officials Over Delay in PM Surya Ghar Works

West Godavari, May 25 (TNT): Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar on Monday expressed serious displeasure over the slow progress in implementation of the PM Surya Ghar rooftop solar scheme and reprimanded electricity department officials for providing misleading information.

During a visit to the SC Colony in Marteru, the minister questioned officials regarding implementation of solar rooftop connections under the PM Surya Ghar programme.

Officials had reportedly furnished incorrect information regarding the progress of works, prompting the minister to express anger and dissatisfaction.

The Minister directed the Superintending Engineer to issue charge memos to the Narsapuram Divisional Engineer and Achanta Assistant Divisional Engineer over the lapses.

He instructed senior officials to ensure that such incidents are not repeated in future.

Later, the minister held a review meeting with electricity department officials of West Godavari district and expressed dissatisfaction over delays in execution of PM Surya Ghar works.

Warning that negligence would not be tolerated, the minister said strict action would be taken if solar rooftop projects were not completed within the stipulated deadlines.

He also met contractors handling PM Surya Ghar tenders and questioned them over delays in providing rooftop solar connections as per prescribed guidelines.

The minister said at least 400 connections should be completed every day to achieve targets within the fixed timeline and advised contractors to deploy additional manpower to speed up works.

He further directed contractors to maintain quality standards in execution of the projects.

Ravi Kumar warned that delays in completing the connections would increase the financial burden on DISCOMs and said strict action would be initiated against contractors showing negligence in implementation of the scheme.
