Governor Calls for Intensified My Bharat, Red Cross Enrolment in Telangana Universities
Hyderabad, Aug. 4 (TNT): Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Tuesday directed Vice-Chancellors of all universities in the State to intensify enrolment under the My Bharat portal and accelerate the Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan to achieve the targets assigned to Telangana within the stipulated timeframe.
Chairing a review meeting with Vice-Chancellors at Lok Bhavan here, the Governor reviewed the progress of My Bharat registrations, Red Cross membership enrolment and awareness programmes under the Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign.
He directed universities to monitor progress on a daily basis and appoint nodal officers and student ambassadors in every affiliated college to speed up student registrations.
Describing the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan as a key people’s movement towards realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat-2047, the Governor said a drug-free India would provide a strong foundation for a developed nation.
He said universities have a crucial role in making the anti-drug campaign a success by encouraging greater participation among youth.
The Governor noted that Telangana has been assigned a target of 14.90 lakh registrations on the My Bharat portal, of which 4.04 lakh registrations have been completed so far.
He urged universities to intensify enrolment drives in affiliated colleges and achieve the target by organising special registration campaigns before August 14.
Referring to the Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan, he said the State has been assigned a target of 2.73 lakh online pledges, while more than 91,000 pledges have been registered so far.
He called upon universities to encourage students, NSS volunteers, NCC cadets, faculty members and other youth to take the pledge through the My Bharat portal and actively participate in the 100-week nationwide awareness campaign.
Speaking on the occasion, Special Chief Secretary to the Governor M. Dana Kishore said that under the Governor’s leadership as President of the Indian Red Cross Society, Telangana State Branch, the organisation had enrolled more than 60,000 new members during the past three months, taking its total membership to 1.17 lakh.
He said the Red Cross continues to undertake blood donation, disaster response, services for thalassaemia patients, first-aid training and Youth Red Cross initiatives.Universities will also organise blood donation camps, disaster management programmes and awareness activities under the Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign through Youth Red Cross units.
Dana Kishore said the target is to enrol 16,000 Red Cross members from universities across Telangana by August 15, adding that online registration facilities are available.
The Governor also unveiled awareness posters to promote the Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign among the public.
Governor’s Joint Secretary K. Shashikirana Chary, Eagle Force Director Sandeep Kumar Shandilya, My Bharat Director Anvesh, Vice-Chancellors, Registrars and senior officials of various universities attended the meeting.
