Hyd: NIRDPR launches urban governance training programme for Nepal delegates
Hyderabad, Aug 3 (TNT): The National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR) on Monday commenced a 10-day training programme on Urban Governance for elected representatives of Urban Local Bodies from Nepal under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) initiative sponsored by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The programme, which will conclude on August 12, is being attended by mayors, chairpersons, acting mayors and municipal members from Ilam, Panchthar, Taplejung and Tehrathum districts of Koshi Province in Nepal.
Inaugurating the programme, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, Saketa Raja Musinipalli, highlighted the longstanding partnership between India and Nepal and described development cooperation as a key pillar of bilateral relations.
He stressed the importance of capacity building and human resource development in areas such as agriculture, horticulture and urban governance.
He expressed confidence that the programme would facilitate the exchange of experiences and best practices, benefiting both countries, and reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening cooperation through training programmes and institutional exchanges.
Addressing the participants, Dr. Jyothis Sathyapalan, Professor at NIRDPR, delivered the special address, while Dr. Anjan Kumar Bhanja, Associate Professor and Head, CPRDPSSD, explained the objectives and design of the programme.
The Nepalese delegates expressed interest in studying best practices in urban governance, localisation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), agriculture, horticulture, sewage and solid waste management, eco-tourism, infrastructure and technology.
Dr. Bhanja said the training programme had been designed to address these areas and would include exposure visits to Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Hyderabad to study successful urban governance models.
Registrar and Director (Administration) Manoj Kumar highlighted the importance of effective urban governance and the planned field visits, while Dr. Pranab Kumar Ghosh wished the participants success and encouraged them to explore NIRDPR’s eco-friendly campus during their stay.
