President Murmu inaugurates Jagadguru Kripalu University, stresses value-based education
Cuttack (Odisha), Aug 3 (TNT): President Droupadi Murmu on Monday inaugurated the Jagadguru Kripalu University here and called upon higher educational institutions to impart value-based education while nurturing innovation, research and entrepreneurship to help realise the vision of a developed India by 2047.
Addressing the inaugural function, the President said Odisha has a rich legacy of knowledge, culture, spirituality and public service, and expressed confidence that the university would blend India’s ancient cultural and spiritual traditions with modern education to serve society and the nation.
Highlighting India’s demographic advantage, Murmu said the country possesses one of the world’s youngest populations and universities have a crucial responsibility in creating an environment that enables youth to develop their talents and fulfil their aspirations.
She said higher educational institutions should produce citizens guided by integrity, discipline, sensitivity and commitment to national interest, adding that education becomes meaningful only when it contributes to the welfare of society and the progress of the nation.
Referring to the goal of building a Viksit Bharat by 2047, the President said universities must emerge as centres of knowledge where research, ideas and technologies address societal needs while promoting ethical values.
Murmu expressed satisfaction that Jagadguru Kripalu University would focus on research, innovation and entrepreneurship alongside the cultural and spiritual development of students, and voiced confidence that it would produce skilled professionals, researchers and entrepreneurs who would contribute to the vision of a Viksit Odisha and a Viksit Bharat.
The President also highlighted Cuttack’s rich legacy, recalling the contributions of eminent personalities such as Madhusudan Das, Gauri Shankar Ray, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Biju Patnaik, Pandit Gopabandhu Das and Dr. Harekrushna Mahtab to the nation’s public life, literature and culture.
