AP launches 34 special rice sale counters in Kakinada district

Kakinada, Aug 3 (TNT): The Andhra Pradesh government on Monday launched 34 special rice sale counters across Kakinada district to provide rice at subsidised prices to consumers in view of the increase in market prices.

Joint Collector Apurva Bharat inaugurated a special rice sale counter at the Rythu Bazaar near the RTC Complex here along with MLC Karri Padma Sri and Kakinada City MLA Kondababu.

Speaking on the occasion, the Joint Collector said the special counters had been opened as a market intervention measure to make rice available at affordable prices for poor and middle-class families. He appealed to the public to utilise the facility.

Another special rice sale counter was inaugurated at the Toorangi Rythu Bazaar by Kakinada Rural MLA Pantham Nanaji along with the Joint Collector.

Officials said steam rice would be sold at ₹52 per kg, while ordinary rice would be available at ₹50 per kg through the counters.

Nanaji thanked Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar for introducing the initiative.

District Supply Officer T. Prasanna Lakshmi Devi, Assistant Director (Marketing) Bharati, Kakinada Rural Tahsildar and representatives of rice millers were present.
