Zomato, Blinkit Facilitate ITR Filing for Over One Lakh Delivery Partners
New Delhi, July 31 (TNT): Eternal-owned Zomato and Blinkit have facilitated the filing of Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for more than one lakh delivery partners across 905 cities this year, helping gig workers build formal financial records and access a range of financial services.
In a statement on Friday, the companies said the initiative has already enabled delivery partners to secure income tax refunds worth Rs 18 crore, with the filing deadline for gig workers remaining open till August 31, 2026.
According to the companies, nearly 73 per cent of the delivery partners who filed ITRs this year were first-time filers, indicating a growing number of gig workers entering the formal financial system.
An ITR serves as an important proof of financial standing and can help delivery partners access personal loans, FD-backed credit cards, rental accommodation and other financial products requiring documented income records.
Commenting on the initiative, Zomato CEO Aditya Mangla said delivery partners remain at the centre of the company’s operations and supporting them extends beyond providing earning opportunities.
He said the company was committed to helping delivery partners build a formal financial identity through ITR filing while also extending welfare benefits and financial tools to enhance their long-term financial security.
The companies have made the ITR filing process available at a subsidised cost through a third-party service provider.
Delivery partners can complete the process digitally through the Zomato and Blinkit Delivery Partner applications using an integrated chatbot, with additional support available through a dedicated helpline.
To encourage wider participation, Zomato and Blinkit are running awareness campaigns through in-app communications, delivery partner testimonials and promotional displays at Blinkit’s dark stores.
The companies said the ITR initiative forms part of a broader financial wellbeing programme that also includes OPD cover, medical and accident insurance, maternity insurance, paid period leave for women delivery partners, fixed and recurring deposit facilities and pension accounts under the gig-worker variant of the National Pension System (NPS).
Eternal Ltd, founded in 2008, operates businesses including food delivery platform Zomato, quick commerce platform Blinkit, going-out platform District, and B2B supplies business Hyperpure, and is India’s largest new-age technology company by market capitalisation.
