Telangana CS Calls for Common Ticketing System for Metro, RTC

Hyderabad, July 31 (TNT): Telangana Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju on Friday directed Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) to take measures to ensure safe, convenient and comfortable travel for Metro Rail passengers and proposed the introduction of a common ticketing system across public transport services.

Chairing the HMRL Board of Directors meeting for the first time as its Chairman at the Telangana Secretariat here, Jaju suggested implementing a common mobility ticketing system for Metro Rail and Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) services, enabling commuters to travel using a single ticket.

He instructed officials to hold discussions with TGSRTC for developing a common mobile application and also asked them to examine the feasibility of introducing daily, weekly and monthly Metro travel passes for the benefit of commuters.

The Board reviewed the progress of the Metro Rail project, including the takeover of Phase-I, land acquisition and utility shifting works for Phase-II, besides reviewing the status of approvals required for the second phase.

The Chief Secretary directed officials to expedite the procurement of additional Metro coaches to meet the growing commuter demand.

The meeting was attended by HMRL Board Directors, including Special Chief Secretary, Metropolitan Area and Urban Development, Jayesh Ranjan; Special Chief Secretary, Transport, Roads and Buildings, Vikas Raj; DGP (Law and Order) Mahesh M. Bhagwat; Special Secretary, Finance, Sikta Patnaik; Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board Managing Director K. Ashok Reddy; HMRL Managing Director Sarfaraz Ahmed; Additional Managing Director B. Ajith Reddy; and Joint Managing Director Shivendra Pratap.
