Telangana CM seeks 11.57 Lakh PMAY-G Houses for Telangana
New Delhi, July 28 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday urged the Centre to sanction 11,56,915 houses to the state under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), stating that the state government has accorded top priority to providing housing for the poor.
During a meeting with Union Rural Development and Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan at Krishi Bhavan, the Chief Minister briefed him on the implementation of the state’s Indiramma Housing Scheme and said the demand for rural housing had increased as the previous government failed to fully utilise the PMAY-G scheme, leaving lakhs of eligible families without houses.
Revanth Reddy said a survey conducted through the Union Rural Development Ministry’s Awaas+ application identified 11,56,915 eligible rural families in Telangana.
He requested the Union Minister to approve the allocation of houses at the earliest.
The Chief Minister also sought the inclusion of additional works under the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajivika Mission (Rural) (VB-G-RAM-G) in view of the prevailing El Niño conditions and deficient rainfall.
He said expanding the scope of the programme would generate employment, improve rural livelihoods and encourage crop diversification for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, small and marginal farmers, and agricultural labourers.
Among the works proposed for inclusion were construction of vegetable trellis structures, development of fodder plots, mulberry cultivation, silkworm rearing sheds, kitchen gardens, bamboo plantations, water-retention trenches on hill slopes, moisture-conservation trenches for plantations and orchards, and restoration of lands damaged by floods and sand deposition.
Revanth Reddy also informed the Union Minister that beneficiaries of the Indiramma Housing Scheme are eligible for up to 90 days of employment under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) during house construction.
In view of the increased demand for employment, he requested approval for additional permissible works under the rural employment programme to address local needs.
Members of Parliament Dr. Mallu Ravi, Vem Narender Reddy, Porika Balaram Naik, Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy, Suresh Shetkar, Gaddam Vamshi Krishna and M. Anil Kumar Yadav, Chief Minister’s Adviser Ramakrishna Rao and Secretary (Coordination) Advait Kumar Singh were present during the meeting.
