AP CM Naidu Orders El Niño Awareness Drive for Farmers, Focus on Student Mental Health
Amaravati, July 27 (TNT): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday directed officials to intensify awareness among farmers on the likely impact of El Niño, asking the Agriculture Department to educate them on its possible consequences and promote suitable alternative crops wherever necessary.
Reviewing the performance of various departments at the Real Time Governance Society (RTGS) Centre in the Secretariat, the Chief Minister said that with forecasts indicating a strong El Niño impact throughout the year, the government should strengthen precautionary measures already in place. He also directed officials to effectively implement the Crop Insurance Action Plan.
Naidu observed that gaps still persist in the delivery of government services in remote areas.
Referring to feedback received during his recent visit to Alur Assembly constituency, he stressed that government employees should ensure their performance meets the expectations and needs of the people.
Expressing anguish over the suicide of Shivani, a meritorious student from Rampachodavaram, the Chief Minister directed officials to strengthen mental health support for students.
Officials informed him that the School Education Department has initiated psychometric assessments to monitor students’ mental well-being.
Naidu instructed the department to engage mental health experts for proper evaluation and provide teachers with adequate training to identify and support students facing psychological stress.
Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy, Chief Secretary G. Sai Prasad, Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta, and senior officials attended the review meeting.
