Former Governor Dattatreya inaugurates Advanced Wound Healing, Limb Salvage Institute in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, July 27 (TNT): Advanced Wound Healing (AWH) Clinics on Monday inaugurated what it claimed to be Bharat’s first dedicated Advanced Wound Healing and Limb Salvage Institution at Moosarambagh here on Monday, with an objective of providing specialised treatment for diabetic foot disease, chronic wounds and limb-threatening conditions.
Former Haryana and Himachal Pradesh Governor Bandaru Dattatreya inaugurated the facility and also launched ‘Happy Feet’, a public awareness campaign aimed at promoting preventive foot care, early diagnosis of foot-related complications and timely medical intervention to reduce avoidable amputations.
Founded by Dr K.V.N.N. Santosh Murthy, Chairman of AWH Clinics and State President of the Indian Podiatry Association (Telangana Chapter), the institution offers specialised services in advanced wound healing, limb salvage, regenerative medicine and preventive podiatry.
According to AWH Clinics, India has over 100 million people living with diabetes, while Telangana has nearly 24.5 lakh diabetic patients.
It said nearly one in four diabetics develops a foot ulcer during their lifetime and up to 85 per cent of diabetes-related lower-limb amputations can be prevented through early screening, timely referral and specialised limb salvage care.
The institution claimed it has helped save more than 1,100 limbs through multidisciplinary limb salvage treatment over the past three years.
Addressing on the occasion, Dattatreya said the institution had adopted a patient-centric approach combining awareness, advanced treatment and compassionate care to prevent avoidable amputations, particularly among diabetic patients.
He said integrating such specialised limb preservation programmes with government hospitals could significantly benefit economically weaker sections.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Murthy said diabetes-related foot ulcers continue to be one of the leading causes of preventable amputations in the country, affecting patients’ mobility, independence and livelihoods.
Claiming that nearly 250 diabetes-related amputations occur every day in Telangana, he stressed the need for early intervention, specialised wound care and limb preservation to reduce the growing burden of disability.
He said the centre is equipped with advanced technologies, including Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (VAC), Stem Cell Therapy, Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, advanced biological wound care, surgical debridement and reconstructive procedures.
The ‘Happy Feet’ campaign seeks to create awareness on diabetic foot screening, daily foot care, prevention of foot ulcers and the importance of seeking timely medical attention before complications become limb-threatening.
The institution also provides treatment for complex non-healing wounds, burns, trauma-related injuries, pressure ulcers, venous and arterial ulcers, osteomyelitis, post-operative wound complications, skin grafting, rehabilitation and preventive podiatry services.
