SAIL posts 138 pc jump in Q1 FY27 net profit at Rs 1,636 crore
New Delhi, July 24 (TNT): Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) on Friday reported a strong financial performance for the first quarter of FY27, with consolidated net profit rising by over 138 per cent year-on-year to ₹1,636 crore.
The company declared its financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, reporting revenue from operations at ₹26,246 crore compared to ₹25,921 crore in Q1 FY26.
SAIL’s Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortisation (EBITDA) increased to ₹4,356 crore in Q1 FY27 from ₹2,925 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.
Profit before tax (PBT) stood at ₹2,159 crore, while profit before exceptional items and tax was ₹2,303 crore during the quarter. The company reported an exceptional item of ₹144 crore.
During Q1 FY27, crude steel production stood at 4.76 million tonnes, while sales volume was recorded at 4.16 million tonnes.
The company said it moderated production and sales volumes compared to the corresponding period last year by advancing scheduled repairs and maintenance during the quarter.
The move was necessitated by geopolitical volatility that disrupted global supply chains and is expected to support production stability and improved performance in the coming quarters.
Commenting on the results, SAIL Chairman and Managing Director Dr Ashok Kumar Panda said the domestic steel industry demonstrated resilience amid global uncertainties, supported by sustained demand in domestic steel consumption.
He said SAIL achieved a profitable quarter through improved operational efficiencies, prudent cost management and focused marketing initiatives.
The company remains confident of leveraging its manufacturing capabilities and capitalising on continued domestic steel demand, he added.
