YSRCP women activists stage protest in Kakinada over crimes against women
Kakinada, July 21 (TNT): YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) women activists on Tuesday staged a protest in Kakinada alleging a rise in crimes against women during the NDA coalition government’s tenure in Andhra Pradesh and demanding stronger measures to ensure women’s safety.
Led by YSRCP district women’s wing president Vardineedi Sujatha, a large number of women activists staged a dharna in front of the Dr B.R. Ambedkar statue at Indrapalem Locks Centre, raising slogans against the state government over what they described as its failure to protect women.
The protesters alleged that incidents of murder, rape and other crimes against women had increased under the present regime, citing the recent incidents in Badvel and Guntur as examples.
They claimed the law and order machinery had failed to curb such offences.
The YSRCP leaders also alleged that ruling party leaders were emboldened due to the government’s inaction and accused the state of functioning under a “Red Book constitution” instead of the Constitution of India.
The protesters warned that people were closely watching the developments and would give a fitting response in the coming days.
Earlier, the activists paid floral tributes to the statue of Dr B.R. Ambedkar and submitted a memorandum highlighting their demands.
Former Kakinada Urban Development Authority (KAUDA) Chairperson Ragireddi Chandrakala Deepthi, Jammalamadaka Nagamani, Pasupuleti Vijayalakshmi and other party leaders participated in the protest.
