UBL commissions new canning line at Telangana’s Nizam Brewery
Hyderabad, July 17 (TNT): United Breweries Limited (UBL), part of the HEINEKEN Company, on Friday announced the commissioning of a new canning line at its Nizam Brewery in Telangana, marking a major expansion of its manufacturing capacity.
The new facility, set up with an investment of ₹90 crore announced in 2025, has commenced operations with the first trial production of Kingfisher Ultra cans, the company said in a release here.
The canning line will enhance the brewery’s annual capacity by 0.4 million hectolitres, taking the total capacity from 0.5 million hectolitres to 0.9 million hectolitres.
The expanded capacity will support UBL’s premium beer portfolio, including Kingfisher, Kingfisher Ultra and Heineken, as demand for canned beer continues to grow among consumers.
The company said the project was completed in record time from groundbreaking to the first product trial, without disrupting existing bottle production. The expansion involved reuse of existing infrastructure and other value engineering measures to optimise costs and ensure faster execution.
UBL Managing Director and CEO Vivek Gupta said the commissioning of the new line strengthens the company’s manufacturing footprint and supply chain capabilities.
“This investment reflects our confidence in the long-term growth potential of the beer category and our commitment to accelerating premiumisation through enhanced manufacturing capabilities,” Gupta said.
The company said the facility will help improve supply chain resilience, strengthen local production capabilities and support the long-term growth of its premium portfolio in one of India’s largest beer markets.
UBL also acknowledged the support of the Telangana government and local authorities in facilitating approvals for the project.
