Hyderabad, Feb 12 (TNT) : In a massive security exercise, the Telangana Police have deployed nearly 12,000 personnel at vote counting centres across the State for the municipal elections scheduled on Friday, Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy said in Hyderabad on Thursday.
More than 73 per cent of voters exercised their franchise in the municipal elections held in the state on Wednesday.
He said the heavy deployment has been made to ensure that the counting of votes for elections to 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations is conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner.
A total of 123 counting centres have been established across Telangana, all of which have been placed under tight security cover, he said.
According to the DGP, the police force includes armed personnel and Quick Response Teams (QRTs), who will maintain round-the-clock vigil at the counting venues.
Each counting centre is under continuous CCTV surveillance, while the entire process is being webcast and monitored live from the Command Control Room at the DGP’s office.
Special focus has been laid on access control, with strict regulation of routes leading to counting centres and entry allowed only to authorised persons carrying valid passes, he said prohibitory orders have been imposed around the centres to prevent unlawful gatherings and maintain public order.
The DGP said thorough frisking and security checks are being carried out before allowing anyone into the premises, and additional measures have been put in place to manage crowds and traffic around sensitive locations.
He added that district Superintendents of Police and Police Commissioners have been instructed to closely monitor the situation on the ground and respond swiftly to any emerging issues.
The DGP appealed to political parties, candidates and the public to cooperate with the police to ensure the counting process is completed smoothly and peacefully.
