Kakinada: Jagan attends Mudragada Padmanabham’s funeral, shoulders bier

Kakinada, July 15 (TNT): YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday attended the funeral of veteran Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham at Kirlampudi in Kakinada district and joined family members in carrying the bier.

Jagan, accompanied by senior YSRCP leader Botsa Satyanarayana, paid floral tributes to Mudragada before shouldering the traditional funeral bier to the cremation site, set up within the late leader’s residence in accordance with his last wish.

Mudragada was cremated with full state honours. An Armed Reserve Police contingent accorded a ceremonial gun salute before his sons, Veera Raghava Rao (Balu) and Challa Rao (Giribabu), lit the funeral pyre amid slogans hailing the late leader.

People cutting across political parties, caste and religious lines attended the funeral to pay their last respects.

The state government was represented by Ministers Kandula Durgesh and Vasamsetti Subhash.

Among those present were BJP state president and Rajahmundry MP D. Purandeswari, MLAs Jyothula Nehru and Bolisetti Srinivasa Rao, MLC Thota Trimurthulu, former MP Vanga Geetha, former minister Thota Narasimham and TDP district president Jyothula Naveen Kumar.

During the funeral, some coalition supporters raised slogans alleging that Mudragada had been subjected to humiliation during the previous YSRCP government’s tenure despite being accorded state honours after his death.
