AI particularly Generative AI will shape future of banking : HDFC Bank  Chairman Mistry

Mumbai, July 11(TNT): Highlighting technology as a key growth driver, HDFC Bank Interim Part-time Chairman Keki M. Mistry said Artificial Intelligence, particularly Generative AI, will shape the future of banking.

He said HDFC Bank remains optimistic about its long-term growth prospects, driven by strong merger synergies, artificial intelligence-led transformation and robust corporate governance.

In his message to shareholders in the bank’s Integrated Annual Report for FY2025-26, Mistry said the Indian economy remained resilient despite global uncertainties arising from geopolitical tensions and trade disruptions, with GDP estimated to have grown 7.7 per cent in FY2025-26, supported by strong domestic demand, easing inflation and sustained public investment.

He said the bank continued to deliver improved financial performance during the year while successfully advancing integration following its merger with HDFC Ltd.

The merger has created one of the country’s largest home loan portfolios, with cross-selling gathering momentum and significant long-term growth opportunities emerging in the housing finance segment, he said.

He said HDFC Bank is building AI capabilities through its in-house platform ‘Neev’, while ensuring innovation is implemented responsibly with strong governance and customer trust at its core.

On governance, Mistry said the bank maintained high standards of transparency and accountability during the leadership transition following the resignation of former Chairman Atanu Chakraborty.

He said the Board appointed external legal firms to examine concerns raised in the resignation letter and subsequently announced the appointment of Rajiv Kumar as Part-time Chairman, subject to regulatory and shareholder approvals.

He said cybersecurity continues to remain a strategic priority as the bank expands its digital footprint, while its CSR initiative Parivartan has now impacted more than 10.7 crore people across India through programmes in rural development, education, healthcare, livelihoods and financial inclusion.

Reaffirming the bank’s outlook, Mistry said HDFC Bank will continue to focus on responsible innovation, operational excellence and customer-centric growth while creating sustainable long-term value for stakeholders.
