Railways approves Rs 206-cr Kavach project for Delhi Division

New Delhi, July 10 (TNT): Indian Railways has approved the installation of Kavach Version 4.0, the country’s indigenous Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, on 680 route kilometres (RKm) in the Delhi Division of Northern Railway at an estimated cost of Rs 206 crore.

The project covers the Rewari-Delhi and Shakurbasti-Bathinda sections, including feeder branch lines, and forms part of the Railways’ nationwide rollout of the Kavach system across high-density and strategically important routes, the Railways said in a release here on Friday.

Kavach is an indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection system designed to enhance railway safety by preventing Signal Passed at Danger (SPAD) incidents and train collisions.

The system continuously monitors train movements, automatically applies brakes whenever required, enables trains to operate safely at the maximum permissible speed and supports reliable operations even under adverse weather conditions such as dense fog.

The Railways said deployment of Kavach Version 4.0 on these key routes would strengthen operational safety, improve efficiency and reliability of train services, and facilitate faster, technology-driven movement of both passenger and freight trains.
