Hyderabad, Feb 11 (TNT): Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the Congress government in Telangana, alleging large-scale violations of election norms, misuse of power and unconstitutional restructuring of municipal corporations.
Addressing a media conference at the Bharatiya Janata Party state office, Kishan Reddy said the Congress, fearing defeat in the municipal elections, resorted to intimidation and undue pressure. He referred to the tragic suicide of BJP candidate Mahadevappa in Makthal, stating that BJP national president J. P. Nadda had expressed deep anguish over the incident and sought details after speaking to state BJP leaders.
The Union Minister alleged that the ruling Congress openly distributed money at polling booths, both inside and outside, even in the presence of police.
Despite repeated complaints, there was no response from the State Election Commission or the police, raising serious doubts about the functioning and impartiality of the election machinery, he said.
Kishan Reddy accused both the Congress and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) of relying on money power and coercion after facing public anger during campaigning.
He, however, asserted that the BJP received strong public support and would perform well in the municipal elections.
