Three Municipal Corporations formed in Hyderabad Region Under CURE Framework

Hyderabad, Feb 11 (TNT): In a major administrative reform to strengthen decentralised urban governance, the Telangana government has reorganised the civic administration of the Hyderabad metropolitan region under the Core Urban Region (CURE) framework.

The restructuring was formalised through G.O.Ms. No. 55, issued by the Metropolitan Area & Urban Development (GHMC-1) Department on Wednesday.

As part of the exercise, three separate municipal corporations have been constituted — the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation, and the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation — with the objective of improving administrative efficiency, service delivery and focused urban governance.

Under the revised structure, the GHMC has been reorganised into six zones, 30 circles and 150 wards, covering an area of about 689 square kilometres.

Officials said the new configuration is intended to strengthen decentralisation and enhance responsiveness at the field level.

To oversee the transition, the government has assigned Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan additional charge as Special Officer for the three municipal corporations.

He is supervising the reorganisation process from the GHMC head office.

Following the reorganisation, R.V. Karnan has taken charge as Commissioner of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to ensure administrative continuity and smooth implementation of the new governance framework.

Officials described the move as a strategic step towards building a more accountable, citizen-centric and future-ready urban governance system for the Hyderabad region.
