Yoga Can Guide Humanity Towards Peace and Collective Well-Being: President Murmu

Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh), June 21 (TNT): President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday said yoga is a powerful medium for connecting the individual with the self, society with nature and humanity with universal consciousness, and can play a significant role in guiding the world towards peace, balance and collective well-being.

Participating in a mass yoga demonstration in Jabalpur, on the occasion of International Yoga Day, the President congratulated yoga practitioners across the globe and described yoga as an invaluable gift of India’s cultural heritage to humanity.

She said the world was celebrating a great Indian tradition that has shown humanity the path to a healthy, balanced and meaningful life.

Referring to the growing global acceptance of yoga, the President noted that the United Nations General Assembly had declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga in 2014 following India’s initiative, further strengthening yoga’s recognition as a tool for global well-being.

“Today, millions of people across many countries have made yoga a part of their daily lives,” she said.

Highlighting this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” the President said it underscores the importance of yoga in ensuring a healthy, active, self-reliant and dignified life for elderly citizens.

She observed that the lifestyle choices people make today lay the foundation for their future health and well-being. Yoga, she said, helps individuals remain active and independent as they age while also promoting mental peace and emotional balance.

The President said the Government of India is continuously working to popularise yoga through education, research, training and public awareness initiatives.

She also appreciated the efforts of various organisations that are encouraging people around the world to adopt yoga practices.

Expressing confidence that yoga would continue to reach more people globally, she said the collective efforts of yoga-related organisations would help make yoga a cornerstone of human well-being.

Urging citizens to incorporate yoga into their daily routines, the President said doing so would contribute to the larger goal of building healthy individuals, healthy families, a healthy society, a healthy nation and ultimately a healthy world.
