AP CM Naidu to attend Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital’s Silver Jubilee Celeberations in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, June 21 (TNT): The Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute  (BIACH&RI) will be held on Monday evening at the Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre, marking 25 years of service in providing quality and affordable cancer care.

The event, hosted under the leadership of actor and Hindupur MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna, theChairman and Managing Trustee of the Hospital,  will be attended by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, along with eminent personalities, leading medical experts and philanthropists associated with the hospital’s journey.

Celebrating 25 years of service, the institution has emerged as one of India’s leading comprehensive cancer care centres, offering world-class treatment to patients from economically weaker sections and bringing advanced oncology services within their reach.

The hospital traces its origins to a vision championed by former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. T. Rama Rao and inspired by the final wish of his wife, Basavatarakam Nandamuri, to ensure that cancer treatment remained accessible and affordable for all.

The foundation for the institution was laid in 1988 with support from medical experts, scientists, philanthropists and members of the Indian diaspora.

It was inaugurated in 2000 by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee as a 100-bed facility and has since expanded into a 650-bed comprehensive cancer hospital and research institute.

Today, the hospital treats more than three lakh outpatients and nearly 90,000 inpatients annually. More than 65 per cent of its patients belong to economically weaker sections, highlighting its role as a people-centric healthcare institution.

Over the years, the hospital has performed more than 8,000 cancer surgeries and 86 bone marrow transplants, while offering advanced treatment in surgical, medical and radiation oncology.

It also provides treatment under government healthcare schemes, including Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, helping underprivileged patients access quality cancer care.

The hospital has also extended its services beyond its campus through a mobile cancer screening programme equipped with digital mammography, ultrasound and digital X-ray facilities.

The initiative has taken early cancer detection services to rural and tribal areas, enabling timely diagnosis and treatment.

In addition to medical care, the institution conducts awareness campaigns, free medical camps and palliative care programmes, providing emotional support and dignity to patients and their families.

Under the stewardship of Balakrishna, the hospital continues to expand its services with a focus on compassion, accessibility and excellence, carrying forward the humanitarian vision of its founders and offering hope to thousands of cancer patients across the region.
