Telangana Govt Plans Milk Supply Through Vijaya Dairy to Schools, Anganwadi Centres

Hyderabad, June 20 (TNT): Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Saturday said the state government is taking steps to strengthen the dairy sector, ensure timely payments to farmers and improve the financial position of Vijaya Dairy.

Chairing a high-level review meeting at the Secretariat, the Deputy Chief Minister discussed a proposal to supply milk from Vijaya Dairy to government schools and Anganwadi centres across the state.

Animal Husbandry Minister Vakiti Srihari and senior officials attended the meeting, during which discussions were held on milk procurement, consumption patterns and payments due to dairy farmers.

Bhatti  said the government is committed to providing economic security to families dependent on dairy farming and recalled Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s assurance of support to the dairy sector.

The Deputy Chief Minister reviewed plans to provide milk to nearly 27 lakh students studying in various educational institutions and directed officials to prepare accurate data on the state’s milk production capacity.

He instructed officials to conduct field-level surveys to identify the actual number of milk-producing animals and assess milk output across districts. A detailed report has been sought for the next review meeting.

Emphasising the need for a transparent procurement policy, Bhatti said farmers should receive fair prices for milk and that their bills should be cleared promptly without delays.

He also directed that payments for milk supplied to schools be transferred directly by the concerned welfare departments to implementing agencies to ensure timely payments to farmers.

Stating that dairy farming remains a key source of livelihood in rural areas, the Deputy Chief Minister said regular payments would improve farmers’ financial stability and encourage greater participation in organised milk procurement systems.

He called for the adoption of modern technologies and best practices to increase milk production and improve profitability in the dairy sector.

The government, he said, is exploring measures to create additional income opportunities for farmers through dairy development alongside agriculture.
