India-UK Trade Agreement to Come into Force on July 15

Evian (France), June 17 (TNT): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday welcomed the entry into force of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) from July 15, 2026, describing it as a historic milestone in bilateral relations.

In a post on X, Modi said the agreement would significantly boost trade and investment between the two countries and create new opportunities for Indian farmers, workers, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), startups and innovators.

He said the pact would contribute meaningfully to the realisation of the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision and further strengthen economic cooperation between India and the United Kingdom.

The Prime Minister noted that both he and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who are attending the G7 Summit in Evian, France, were pleased with the momentum being added to India-UK economic ties through the agreement.

Calling it a landmark development, Modi said the implementation of the trade pact would open new avenues for growth, investment and employment while deepening the strategic economic partnership between the two nations.

The India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement is expected to enhance market access, facilitate trade and investment flows, and strengthen collaboration across key sectors of the two economies.
