Telangana DGP Directs Proactive Measures to Prevent Monsoon Related Traffic Disruptions
Hyderabad, June 16 (TNT): Telangana Director General of Police C. V. Anand on Tuesday directed officials to take proactive measures in vulnerable areas to prevent traffic congestion and ensure smooth vehicular movement during the ongoing monsoon season.
The directions were issued during an emergency review meeting held at Malkampet on the outskirts of Hyderabad in line with instructions from Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to assess measures aimed at preventing waterlogging, urban flooding and traffic disruptions.
During the review, Anand said the Police Department was maintaining a high level of preparedness to ensure that citizens do not face inconvenience due to heavy rains and waterlogging.
He stressed the need to identify alternative traffic routes and disseminate timely information to the public whenever necessary. The DGP instructed police personnel to maintain constant surveillance in low-lying areas, flood-prone localities, major traffic junctions and other critical locations across the city.
He further directed that emergency response mechanisms be kept fully operational to enable swift action in the event of any unforeseen situation arising from heavy rainfall.
Officials informed the meeting that special engineering teams had been constituted to undertake field inspections in and around Malkam Cheruvu, Khajaguda Lake, Mandikunta, Gurunath Cheruvu, lakes in the Miyapur region, the Biodiversity Junction area, Kondapur and other flood-prone locations.
The teams will conduct detailed assessments of water flow channels, encroachments, drainage connectivity and other factors contributing to water stagnation and flooding. They have been tasked with submitting reports recommending both immediate remedial measures and long-term solutions to address recurring waterlogging issues.
Anand underscored the importance of close coordination among the Police, Irrigation Department, GHMC, HYDRAA and other agencies for effective flood management and public safety. He called upon all departments to identify problem areas proactively and implement corrective measures without delay.
The DGP also cautioned officials against complacency and reiterated that public safety must remain the foremost priority during the monsoon season. He directed all police units across the state to remain vigilant and fully prepared until the end of the rainy season and ensure that necessary assistance is extended to the public whenever required.
The meeting concluded with a commitment from all departments to work in close coordination to address waterlogging concerns, strengthen drainage management and ensure the safety and convenience of citizens during the monsoon period.
The review meeting was chaired by Sudarshan Reddy and attended by GHMC Commissioner R. V. Karnan, Cyberabad Municipal Commissioner Srujana, HYDRAA Commissioner A. V. Ranganath, Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty and senior officials from various departments.
