Dehradun, June 13 (TNT): President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday reviewed the Passing Out Parade of the 158th Regular Course and the 141st Technical Graduate Course at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) and congratulated the graduating officer cadets on successfully completing one of the country’s most demanding military training programmes.

Addressing the cadets, the President said their courage, wisdom and commitment to service would be their greatest strengths as they embark on their military careers.

Murmu described the participation of nine women cadets in the passing out parade as a watershed moment in the history of the Indian Military Academy and the Armed Forces.

“It is not only a milestone in the history of India’s defence forces but also an inspiring example of the country’s march towards women-led development,” she said, expressing confidence that many more women would join the academy in the years ahead.

The President also congratulated the cadets from friendly foreign countries and expressed confidence that they would bring laurels to their respective armed forces and nations through the values and training acquired at the academy.

She said the presence of foreign cadets at the IMA reflects India’s commitment to fostering friendship, cooperation and peaceful relations with countries around the world.

According to the President, the professional bonds, mutual trust and understanding developed during training at the academy play a significant role in strengthening defence cooperation among nations.

Addressing the newly commissioned officers, Murmu said they would serve as guardians of the nation’s sovereignty, unity and integrity and carry the trust of more than 140 crore Indians.

She urged them to regard service as their highest duty and prepare themselves for a rapidly evolving security environment marked by technological advancements and complex global challenges.

“The Indian Army must remain adaptive and future-ready. Young officers should be lifelong learners, courageous decision-makers and ethical leaders,” she said.

The President emphasised that military leadership extends beyond operational responsibilities and includes caring for the welfare of soldiers.

“As Army officers, you will be responsible for leading, guiding and caring for your soldiers. Lead by example, inspire confidence and foster teamwork and dedication,” she said.

She added that by balancing operational effectiveness with the well-being of their troops, officers would strengthen the fighting capability of their units and uphold the finest traditions of the Indian Armed Forces.

The ceremony marked the commissioning of a new batch of officers into the Indian Army, following the successful completion of their training at the premier military academy.
