Reliance, Meta Partner to Build 168 MW AI Data Centre in Gujarat

Mumbai, June 10 (TNT): Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and Meta Platforms Inc. on Wednesday announced a partnership to develop a 168 MW data centre at Jamnagar in Gujarat, marking Meta’s first built-to-suit data centre facility in India.

Under the agreement, RIL will develop the facility within two years, with provisions for future capacity expansion. Meta will lease capacity from the data centre to support its global infrastructure and artificial intelligence (AI) computing requirements.

The project represents a significant milestone in India’s emergence as a global hub for AI infrastructure and further strengthens the long-standing strategic relationship between Reliance and Meta across connectivity, commerce and digital technologies, the RIL said in a release.

RIL said it will provide end-to-end services for the facility, including design, construction, renewable energy supply, utility management, network connectivity and fully managed operations.

The company said the project positions Reliance as a single-window provider of hyperscale AI infrastructure solutions in India.

According to the companies, the Jamnagar location offers several strategic advantages, including access to renewable energy, water resources, proximity to western submarine cable landing stations and connectivity through Jio’s extensive fibre network.

The facility will be powered by renewable energy and utilise desalinated seawater for cooling, reflecting the sustainability commitments of both companies.

Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh D. Ambani described the partnership as a transformative moment for India’s digital infrastructure landscape.

He said the project demonstrates India’s readiness to play a leading role in the global AI revolution and added that Jamnagar would emerge as a major destination for hyperscale AI computing.

Meta Founder and Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg said the company was proud to collaborate with Reliance on its first AI-enabled data centre in India.

He said the facility would help Meta expand its global AI infrastructure while reinforcing its long-term investment in India’s digital economy.

The partnership is also aligned with the Government of India’s efforts to position data centres as strategic national infrastructure and attract global investments in AI and advanced digital technologies.
