Telangana Civic Polls: BJP promises Corruption-Free Urban Governance

Hyderabad, Feb 6 (TNT): Stepping up its campaign for the forthcoming civic polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday sought to position itself as a strong alternative to the ruling Congress, promising corruption-free and development-driven municipal governance across Telangana.

Releasing party’s  manifesto “Viksit Telangana BJP Sankalp Patra–2026” for municipal and corporation elections, BJP state president K. Laxman Rao said the party was confident of winning the urban local body polls and transforming every municipality into a “model municipality.”

He asserted that strict action would be taken against corruption in local administrations.

Taking a political swipe at the ruling Congress government, Rao accused it of diverting municipal funds and alleged misuse of the police machinery to intimidate BJP candidates and workers ahead of the civic elections.

He cited instances in Ramagundam and Mancherial to claim that the ruling party was attempting to influence the electoral process.

Hitting back at Chief Minister Revanth Reddy over questions on Central assistance, the BJP leader said the party had detailed information on funds released by the Centre to Telangana and to individual districts, and challenged the State government to disclose district-wise allocations in its budget.

Rao alleged that both Congress and BRS were unsettled by indications of a BJP surge in urban areas and were therefore indulging in what he termed “negative and divisive politics.”

He also criticised the proposed hate-prevention legislation, alleging political targeting of the BJP.

Outlining key poll promises, Rao said the BJP would ensure no increase in property or municipal taxes, introduce a single-window system for building permissions within seven days, strengthen Basti Dawakhanas, protect temples and reclaim encroached temple lands, establish gaushalas in every municipality, develop multipurpose parks, and ensure 100 per cent underground drainage in all urban local bodies.

Senior leaders, including municipal election co-incharge Ashok Parnami, Rajya Sabha MP Rekha Sharma, party spokesperson N.V. Subhash, and others, were present at the press conference.
