Lifestyle Changes Driving Rise in Gastrointestinal, Liver Diseases: Experts at Natl Conference in vizag

Visakhapatnam, June 7 (TNT): Gastrointestinal and liver disorders are witnessing a steady rise in India, largely due to changing lifestyles and dietary habits, according to experts participating in a national medical conference held in Visakhapatnam on Sunday.

The fourth edition of Gastro Update, a continuing medical education programme, was jointly organised by the Institute of Liver and Gastro Sciences at KIMS Hospitals, Seethammadhara, the Association of Physicians of India (API), the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Vizag Gut Club.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Chalapathi Rao Achanta, Senior Consultant Gastroenterologist and Chairman of the Organising Committee, said the conference brought together leading gastroenterologists, physicians, postgraduate students and healthcare professionals from across the country to deliberate on complex clinical challenges in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal and liver diseases.

He noted that academic discussions on difficult cases not only enhance the diagnostic skills of medical professionals but also contribute significantly to improving patient care and treatment outcomes.

Dr. Achanta emphasized that such conferences are particularly beneficial for young doctors, providing them with valuable clinical insights and exposure to emerging technologies and advanced treatment modalities in gastroenterology and hepatology.

The conference witnessed participation from renowned medical experts from New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar and Ahmedabad.

Experts discussed a wide range of challenging medical conditions, including dysphagia (difficulty in swallowing), treatment-resistant indigestion, recurrent jaundice, chronic diarrhoea, liver cancers, complex gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), recurrent perianal fistula, severe pancreatitis and recurrent gastrointestinal bleeding.

A major highlight of the conference was the interactive case-based sessions involving real patient cases. National and regional experts jointly analysed the cases and shared insights on contemporary diagnostic techniques and evidence-based treatment strategies.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Abhinay, CEO of KIMS Group of Hospitals, and Dr. Nagesh, Regional CEO, thanked the faculty members, delegates and partner organisations for contributing to the success of the event.

They said the enthusiastic response to the conference reflected Visakhapatnam’s growing stature as a centre for medical education, research and advanced clinical training, particularly in the fields of gastroenterology and liver sciences.

The organisers noted that such academic platforms play a crucial role in promoting knowledge exchange and improving healthcare outcomes through continuous medical education and collaborative learning.
