RINL Celebrates World Environment Day with Mega Plantation Drive in Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam, June 5 (TNT): “World Environment Day 2026 was celebrated with enthusiasm at Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, here on Friday.
This year’s theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future”, highlighted the importance of nature-based solutions in addressing climate change and ensuring a sustainable future.
On the special occasion of World Environment Day 2026, RINL organized a mega plantation drive by planting 500 saplings comprising fruit-bearing and flowering species at four different locations, covering an area of about one hectare in the Township and Plant production zones.
The initiative reflects RINL’s commitment to environmental conservation and aptly aligns with this year’s theme.
Later, at the valedictory function of the World Environment Day celebrations held at Tenneti Viswanadham Auditorium, Ukkunagaram, employees took an Environment Protection Pledge, reaffirming their commitment towards preserving nature, protecting the environment, and promoting sustainable practices.
Addressing the gathering, RINL Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) M N V S Prabhakar, emphasized the need to protect Mother Earth and preserve the environment for future generations. He remarked that trees are like our mothers, as they selflessly nurture and sustain life by providing oxygen, shade, food, and ecological balance.
He called upon everyone to respect, protect, and nurture trees and appreciated the efforts of those who dedicate themselves to planting and caring for them.
On the occasion, prizes were distributed to winners of various competitions organized as part of the World Environment Day 2026 celebrations.
Arun Kanti Bagchi, Director (Projects) & Director Personnel) (Additional Charge), G. V. N. Prasad, Director (Commercial), Vinay Kumar, Director (Finance), Subhasis Sengupta, Director (Operations), senior officials, representatives of associations, trade unions, and employees participated in the programme, reaffirming their commitment to a greener and cleaner environment.
