BRS, Congress Failed to Deliver on Telangana’s Core Aspirations: BJP State Chief

Hyderabad, June 4 (TNT): BJP Telangana president N. Ramchander Rao on Thursday alleged that both the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the Congress had failed to fulfil the aspirations of the people of Telangana even a decade after the formation of the state.

Speaking at the “Meet the Press” programme organised by the Press Club of Hyderabad, Rao asserted that the Telangana movement was not the achievement of any single political party but the outcome of a collective struggle involving Joint Action Committees (JACs), students, lawyers, employees and the general public.

Rao said attributing the formation of Telangana solely to one political party amounted to a distortion of history.

He maintained that the BJP had consistently supported the creation of Telangana on the principle that smaller states ensure more efficient administration and development.

Paying tribute to those who participated in the statehood movement, he said Telangana was ultimately achieved through the sacrifices of more than 1,200 students and youth.

He expressed concern that many activists and freedom fighters associated with the movement had still not received adequate recognition and respect.

Launching a sharp attack on both the previous BRS government and the present Congress administration, Rao alleged that the core objectives of the Telangana movement—water, funds and employment—remain largely unfulfilled.

“The aspirations of Telangana’s youth, who fought for employment opportunities, remain unmet,” he said, accusing both governments of failing to establish a proper job recruitment calendar and disappointing unemployed youth.

Rao also raised concerns over the state’s financial condition, alleging growing fiscal mismanagement.

He claimed that the Telangana Cabinet’s recent resolution to ensure salaries for government employees are paid on the first day of every month reflected the seriousness of the state’s financial challenges.

He further alleged that the government owed nearly Rs 20,000 crore in pending payments to contractors and that fee reimbursement dues to students had accumulated to around Rs 10,000 crore.

On irrigation and water-sharing issues, Rao accused successive state governments of failing to safeguard Telangana’s interests, particularly with regard to Krishna River water allocations.

He alleged that the state had not effectively protected its legal rights and had failed to formulate a long-term policy for water resource management.

According to Rao, large irrigation projects undertaken at substantial cost had not yielded the expected benefits for farmers.

He also alleged that Telangana’s rightful share of river waters had been compromised for political reasons.

Highlighting the contribution of the Central Government to Telangana’s development, Rao said the NDA government had extended financial assistance and developmental support worth nearly Rs 13 lakh crore to the state over the past 12 years.

He noted that the Union Cabinet had recently approved Rs 7,597 crore for the expansion of two major National Highways involving the construction of 190 kilometres of four-lane roads.

The projects, he said, would improve connectivity to Armoor, Jagtial, Mancherial and Karimnagar, with the long-term objective of connecting all districts of Telangana through the national highway network.

Rao also cited several major initiatives undertaken by the Centre in Telangana, including the establishment of the Central Tribal University in Mulugu, the revival of Ramagundam Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited (RFCL), the Railway Coach Manufacturing Unit at Kazipet, the Mega Textile Park in Warangal and the proposed National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ) at Zaheerabad.
