TG20 Player Auction for Telangana’s Premier Franchise Cricket League to be Held on June 7
Hyderabad, June 3 (TNT): The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) on Wednesday announced that the much-awaited player auction for the inaugural edition of TG20, Telangana’s premier franchise-based T20 cricket league, will be held at the Princess Convention Centre, Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad, on June 7.
The auction marks a major milestone for TG20, Telangana’s first-ever franchise cricket league, which will feature eight teams, 32 matches and 21 days of competitive cricket, bringing together some of the finest cricketing talent from across the state.
More than 1,300 HCA-registered cricketers will go under the hammer as franchises begin assembling their squads for the inaugural season.
The auction pool will be headlined by Telangana’s international stars Mohammed Siraj and Tilak Varma, alongside leading domestic cricketers Rohit Rayudu, Rahul Buddhi, C.V. Milind and Tanmay Agarwal, all of whom are expected to attract considerable interest from franchise owners.
The player pool also includes several emerging talents, including India Under-19 representative Aaron George and members of Telangana’s Vinoo Mankad Trophy-winning squad, underlining the league’s objective of creating a pathway from grassroots cricket to the professional level.
The eight franchises participating in the inaugural edition are Hyderabad e-Champions, Pranava Ranga Reddy Risers, Warangal Warriors, Medak Falcons, Anurag Nalgonda Knights, Karimnagar Diamonds, Palamuru Strikers and Anvita Khammam Aces.
The auction will begin with the Icon Category, followed by the A+, A, B, C1 and C2 categories, allowing franchises to build balanced squads of up to 20 players each.
As part of TG20’s commitment to promoting cricket across Telangana, every franchise must include a minimum of four district cricketers in its squad, while at least two district players must feature in the playing XI. Teams will also have the opportunity to recruit promising Under-19 players and cricketers identified through the league’s extensive open-trial programme.
Each franchise will have a purse of ₹60 lakh, with a mandatory minimum spend of ₹54 lakh, ensuring competitive bidding and strategic team-building during the auction.
Former India cricketer Ambati Rayudu, Chairman of HCA’s Cricket Operations Committee, and his team played a key role in conducting open trials across the state, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from aspiring cricketers from both urban and rural regions.
The auction proceedings will be conducted by renowned sports presenter and auctioneer Charu Sharma and will be streamed live on JioHotstar.
TG20 Governing Council Chairman V. Agam Rao said the league is aimed at identifying, nurturing and showcasing Telangana’s cricketing talent on a professional platform.
“TG20 is much more than a cricket tournament. It is a platform where dreams meet opportunity. We are confident that TG20 will emerge as a landmark sporting property for Telangana and provide a strong pathway for aspiring cricketers from every corner of the state,” he said.
The inaugural edition of TG20 is scheduled to commence on June 21, 2026, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Uppal, with all matches to be played at the venue.
