 Subhasis Sengupta Assumes Charge as RINL Director (Operations)

Visakhapatnam, June 3 (TNT):  Subhasis Sengupta, a distinguished steel industry professional with over three decades of rich experience in steel production, maintenance, project execution, and plant management, assumed charge as Director (Operations) of  Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, here on Wednesday.
Born on 14th July 1969 in Kolkata,  Subhasis Sengupta is a Mechanical Engineering graduate from The Bengal Engineering & Science University, West Bengal, and holds an M.Tech in Design and Production Engineering from NIT Durgapur.
He joined SAIL as a Management Trainee (Technical) in 1992 after a brief stint with Reliance Industries.
He has over three decades of experience in the steel industry.
Prior to joining RINL, he served as Chief General Manager (Projects) at Durgapur Steel Plant, SAIL, where he led major brownfield expansion projects worth over ₹5,500 crore and is associated with the proposed 3 MTPA greenfield expansion project estimated at ₹28,000 crore.
Earlier, as Chief General Manager (Works) and Unit Head of SAIL Growth Works,  Sengupta led a major turnaround of the plant, increasing production by 51% and turnover by 108% during his tenure.
He also implemented several projects that enhanced equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
Sengupta envisions transforming RINL into a leading steel producer through operational excellence, digital transformation, and sustainable development.
His immediate focus areas include full capacity utilization, safety, raw material security, equipment reliability, cost optimization, and decarbonization.
He also plans to leverage advanced technologies such as IoT, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML) to improve operational efficiency, predictive maintenance, and decision-making.
He aims to promote the adoption of industry best practices through collaboration with leading steel producers.
With over three decades of experience in steel plant operations, maintenance, and project management, Subhasis Sengupta is poised to contribute significantly to RINL’s growth, operational excellence, and long-term sustainability.
