Congress Changing Political Narrative to Suit Different Vote Banks, Alleges Telangana BJP Chief
Suryapet, May 29 (TNT): Telangana BJP State President N. Ramchander Rao on Friday alleged that the ruling Congress party was changing its political narrative to suit different vote banks and accused it of opportunistic politics.
Addressing the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Prashikshan Abhiyan in Suryapet, Ramchander Rao claimed that the Congress had begun invoking the legacy of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao (NTR) to attract Andhra-origin voters ahead of the forthcoming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections.
“Congress has no moral right to speak about NTR Garu. He entered politics to protect Telugu self-respect after Congress insulted Telugu pride and was among the first leaders to advocate a Congress-free India,” he said.
The BJP leader also criticised the Congress over its stance on Other Backward Classes (OBCs), alleging that while Congress leader Rahul Gandhi frequently speaks about OBC representation, the party had removed its only OBC Chief Minister and continues to be led by upper-caste chief ministers in several states.
Launching a sharp attack on the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Ramchander Rao said the party had failed Telangana during its nine-year rule and had lost public confidence, as reflected in its performance in the Lok Sabha elections.
He further claimed that several BRS leaders and workers were keen to join the BJP, viewing it as the only credible alternative to the Congress in the state.
Expressing confidence in the BJP’s prospects, he said that after experiencing both BRS and Congress governments, the people of Telangana were now looking towards a “double-engine” BJP government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The BJP state president also accused the Congress government of corruption and criticised its handling of paddy procurement.
He alleged that farmers in Suryapet and neighbouring districts were facing severe hardships due to delays in procurement and were being forced to sell their produce below the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
Demanding immediate action, Ramchander Rao urged the state government to procure every grain produced by farmers and ensure that they receive fair remuneration for their produce.
Congratulating BJP workers for participating in the training programme despite the summer heat, he said the initiative was aimed at strengthening the ideological foundation, organisational discipline and service-oriented approach of party cadre.
Describing the BJP as a movement guided by the principles of “Nation First” and public service, Ramchander Rao recalled the party’s early days when workers travelled from village to village on bicycles to enrol members at a time when the BJP had only two seats in Parliament.
“The dedication and sacrifices of party workers helped the BJP emerge as a dominant political force across the country,” he said.
Noting that the BJP currently has eight Members of Parliament and eight MLAs in Telangana, he attributed the party’s growth to the commitment and hard work of grassroots workers.
Referring to an exhibition showcasing BJP workers who had sacrificed their lives for the party, he urged cadre to draw inspiration from their dedication and continue serving society.
Highlighting the Centre’s contribution to Telangana, Ramchander Rao cited initiatives such as national highways, free rice distribution, Warangal airport development, the revival of the Ramagundam Fertilizer Factory, the establishment of a Central Tribal University, the Warangal Textile Park, a coach factory and industrial development in Zaheerabad.
He claimed that the Narendra Modi-led government had provided nearly ₹13 lakh crore to Telangana for various development programmes and infrastructure projects.
Concluding his address, Ramchander Rao appealed to the people of Telangana to give the BJP an opportunity to govern the state, asserting that Prime Minister Modi’s leadership had delivered welfare, development and clean governance over the past 12 years.
He called upon party workers to take the BJP’s message to every household and work with dedication, discipline and a spirit of service.
