GITAM Introduces Four-Year Integrated B.Ed. Program from 2026-27

Hyderabad,, May 27 (TNT): GITAM Deemed to be University, Hyderabad campus, will introduce the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) from the academic year 2026–27, offering four-year dual-major undergraduate degrees  — B.A. B.Ed. and B.Sc. B.Ed. under the framework of India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, according to Dr. Richa Sharma, Associate Professor and Head, School of Education, Hyderabad campus.

Explaining the significance of the programme, Dr. Sharma said that ITEP is designed to integrate subject knowledge with professional pedagogical training immediately after Class XII (Intermediate), with the objective of preparing highly qualified, multidisciplinary educators for the future.

The programme envisions nurturing passionate, professionally trained and socially responsible teachers who can create developmentally appropriate learning experiences for students across different stages of school education, she said.

She stated that the four-year integrated programme aims to provide prospective teachers with comprehensive training in content, pedagogy, values and classroom practice.

The curriculum also emphasizes Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN), inclusive education, and Indian values, culture, traditions and ethos, while aligning with 21st- century global educational standards.

ITEP, notified on October 26, 2021, is a holistic undergraduate teacher education programme offering B.A. B.Ed., B.Sc. B.Ed. and B.Com. B.Ed. degrees. The course prepares teachers for the four stages of the new school structure — Foundational, Preparatory, Middle and Secondary (5+3+3+4).

One of the major advantages of the programme is that students can complete their teacher education in four years instead of the conventional five-year route, thereby saving one academic year.

For the 2026–27 academic session, the programme is being offered in around 223 participating institutions across the country, including IITs, NITs, Regional Institutes of Education (RIEs), Central and State Universities, and GITAM also, with nearly 16,950 seats available.

Admission to the programme will be conducted through the National Common Entrance Test (NCET) 2026, which is mandatory for admission into all participating institutions.
