Kakinada: 3.70 lakh acres to get irrigation water during Kharif: Collector
Kakinada, May 26 (TNT): The District Irrigation Advisory Council at a meeting held at the Collectorate here on Tuesday resolved to supply irrigation water to a total ayacut of 3,70,354 acres during the Kharif 2026 season under various irrigation systems in the district.
The council also directed officials to complete 490 de-silting and de-weeding works under different irrigation systems at an estimated cost of ₹24 crore, besides 201 cyclone restoration works costing ₹10 crore, before the release of water.
According to the schedule finalised at the meeting, water would be released to the Godavari Eastern Delta and Pithapuram branch canal ayacut from June 1, while ayacuts under the Yeleru and Pampa reservoirs would receive water from the first week of July.
Water supply to the Pushkara Lift ayacut would commence from the second week of July and to the Subbareddi Sagar ayacut from the second week of August.
The council further advised farmers in the Eastern Delta region to raise paddy nurseries between June 10 and the end of June and complete transplantation before the end of July.
Farmers were also advised against direct sowing due to prevailing high temperatures and were instead encouraged to cultivate short-duration paddy varieties.
District Collector M N Harendhira Prasad presided over the meeting.
Peddapuram MLA Nimmakayala Chinarajappa, Jaggampeta MLA Jyothula Nehru, Godavari Project Committee chairman Muralasetti Sunilkumar, and Yeleru Project Committee chairman Pasala Virababu, along with representatives of water users’ associations, participated in the discussions and urged engineers to maintain quality in execution of operation and maintenance works.
Polavaram Left Main Canal Superintending Engineer Yesubabu, District Agricultural Officer N. Vijayakumar and Yeleru Division Executive Engineer Seshagirirao were among the officials who attended the meeting.
