Telangana Govt Committed to Singareni Growth, Expansion into New Coal Blocks: Dy CM Bhatti
Hyderabad, May 25 (TNT):Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Monday directed the management of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) to secure new coal blocks in other states to ensure the company remains competitive in the prevailing market conditions.
He also advised the company to focus on marketing high-quality coal.
Chairing a high-level review meeting at the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat with ministers, MLAs from coal belt constituencies and senior Singareni officials, Bhatti said the state government would extend complete support for the development of Singareni and the coal belt region.
He stated that the government was committed to implementing promises made to the coal belt region during the elections.
The Deputy Chief Minister stressed the need for Singareni to acquire coal blocks in other states where high-quality coal could be produced at lower cost and advised the company to move aggressively in securing new blocks.
Criticising the previous government for allegedly failing to obtain new coal blocks during its ten-year rule, Bhatti said Singareni, which originated nearly a century ago in the Illandu region, had now expanded operations up to Odisha under the present government.
He said securing new coal blocks and selling quality coal would help strengthen and protect the Singareni organisation.
During the meeting, legislators from the Singareni region raised several local issues and sought development measures for the coal belt.
Bhatti instructed Singareni management to consider the suggestions and requests made by MLAs and ministers and announced that review meetings would henceforth be held once every 15 days to monitor action taken on representations submitted by coal belt legislators.
The Deputy Chief Minister reiterated that the government had already initiated several measures to fulfil promises made to Singareni workers and people of the coal belt region during the elections and reaffirmed its commitment to the future development of both Singareni and the region.
Among those present at the meeting were Ministers Duddilla Sridhar Babu and Seethakka, Energy Special Secretary Naveen Mittal, SCCL CMD Jyothi Buddha Prakash, SCCL Director Gautham Potru, MP Balaram Naik and several MLAs from Singareni belt constituencies.
