Telangana CM unveils 10-Year Policing Roadmap; Focus on Cyber Crime, Anti-Drug measures

Hyderabad, May 21 (TNT):Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday announced that the State government is preparing a comprehensive action plan to strengthen policing over the next 10 years, with special emphasis on curbing cyber crime, tackling the drug menace, eliminating corruption in the police department and modernising law enforcement infrastructure.

Chairing a high-level review meeting with senior police officials, the Chief Minister directed authorities to formulate a strategic roadmap aimed at upgrading policing standards across the State.

Warning that negligence in maintaining law and order would not be tolerated, Revanth Reddy stressed the need for the police department to adapt to rapidly changing crime patterns by leveraging advanced technologies and drone-based policing systems in the future.

He instructed officials to strengthen the CCTV surveillance network and ensure effective utilisation of the Integrated Command and Control Centre. He also reiterated a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption within the police department.

Among the key proposals discussed was the introduction of a QR code-based complaint registration system in all police stations to facilitate easier public access to police services.

Expressing concern over the growing incidence of food adulteration and its impact on public health, the Chief Minister directed officials to prepare modalities for a stringent new law to curb adulteration practices.

The review meeting also focused on enhancing patrolling systems, strengthening village-level policing, conducting regular reviews of rowdy sheeters and history sheeters, and upgrading the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) infrastructure.

Officials were also instructed to pursue the Union government for an increase in the allocation of IPS officers to Telangana.

On the issue of drug trafficking and ganja smuggling, the Chief Minister called for special surveillance measures and directed authorities to establish de-addiction centres for drug victims.

The Chief Minister further instructed that all vehicles in the police department should gradually be transitioned to electric vehicles (EVs).

In view of increasing fire hazards, he directed officials to submit a comprehensive report on strengthening the Fire Department by June 15, emphasising the need for preventive measures rather than post-incident responses.

The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of coordination between the Police Department, GHMC, Water Board and HYDRAA for the maintenance of stormwater drains and manholes, particularly during the monsoon season.

Taking serious note of the indiscriminate erection of flex banners across Hyderabad, the Chief Minister ordered strict enforcement measures against unauthorised flexi boards and called for intensified night patrolling in the city.

Reviewing service-related matters, Revanth Reddy suggested that police personnel from the rank of Sub-Inspector to Non-Cadre IPS officers should serve in other departments for two years following their promotions.

The Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police were asked to study the proposal and submit a report.

The Chief Minister also directed officials to introduce specialised cybercrime courses at the Skills University and strengthen the technological capabilities of the Vigilance Department to better combat organised crime and revenue leakages.
