habitual matrimonial fraudster arrested in Hyderabad for cheating women through fake profiles

Hyderabad, May 19 (TNT): The Cyberabad Police on Tuesday arrested a habitual matrimonial fraud offender allegedly involved in cheating women through fake profiles created on various matrimonial platforms.

The accused was identified as Manda Venkata Kameshu, a resident of Undrajawaram in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, the Cyberabad polcie said in a release here.

The accused created fake profiles on matrimonial applications such as Telugu Matrimony, Reddy Matrimony, Brahmin Matrimony and Kamma Matrimony, posing as a wealthy and well-settled individual.

Investigators said the accused allegedly targeted women seeking matrimonial alliances, gained their trust through WhatsApp calls, Instagram chats and emotional conversations, and later induced them to transfer money and share sensitive banking details, including OTPs, credit card information and bank credentials.

Police said the cheated money was allegedly spent on online betting and casino activities in Goa.

The Cyber Crime Police stated that the accused is involved in nearly 20 criminal cases across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh related to cheating and matrimonial fraud. He was apprehended and later remanded to judicial custody.

Issuing an advisory, Cyberabad Police urged citizens to remain cautious while interacting with unknown persons on matrimonial and social media platforms and advised against sharing OTPs, bank account details or other financial information online.

Police also advised people to verify the identity and background of individuals before proceeding with matrimonial alliances and encouraged victims of cyber fraud to report incidents through the Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 or at the nearest cyber crime police station.
