AP Govt to release ‘Matsyakarula Sevalo’ Funds for 1.3 Lakh Fishermen Families Tomorrow

Amaravati, May 18 (TNT): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will release financial assistance under the ‘Matsyakarula Sevalo’ scheme at a programme to be held at Thummalapenta village in Kavali mandal of Nellore district on May 19.

Under the scheme, the Andhra Pradesh Government will directly deposit ₹262 crore into the bank accounts of 1,30,796 fishermen families across the state during the annual fishing ban period.

Every year, a 61-day fishing ban is observed from April 15 to June 14 to facilitate breeding of marine species, during which fishing activities in the sea are suspended.

To support fishermen families during the no-fishing season, the government is providing ₹20,000 financial assistance per family.

According to officials, the government has extended assistance amounting to ₹505 crore over the last two years under the scheme.

The coalition government said it doubled the assistance amount to ₹20,000 despite financial constraints, reaffirming its commitment towards the welfare of fishermen communities.

The government also highlighted measures taken to support families of fishermen who lost their lives in fishing-related accidents.

During 2024–25, ₹3.15 crore was released towards settlement of 63 insurance claims, while ₹5.65 crore was released during 2025–26 towards 113 pending claims.

In addition, the government said it is encouraging seaweed cultivation as part of efforts to improve livelihood opportunities and enhance the income of fishermen families across the state.
