Telangana CM demands Rollback of Fuel Price Hike, Slams Centre

Hyderabad, May 16 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Anumula on Saturday criticised the Narendra Modi-led Central Government over the recent increase in petrol and diesel prices, demanding an immediate rollback of the hike.

In a post on X, Revanth alleged that the increase in fuel prices was unjustifiable and would adversely impact multiple sectors, besides leading to a rise in the prices of essential commodities and increasing the burden on common people.

He claimed that the country’s economy had weakened due to what he termed ineffective governance and flawed policies of the Modi government.

“‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ has remained merely an election slogan rather than a policy that delivered real results,” he said, alleging that small and medium-scale industries had suffered heavily and youth were facing uncertainty over employment opportunities.

The Chief Minister further alleged that the promise of doubling farmers’ incomes remained unfulfilled and claimed that the value of the rupee had steadily declined over the past decade.

Referring to the Iran-Israel conflict, Revanth accused the Centre of using the war situation as a pretext to increase fuel prices.

Questioning the government’s economic claims, he asked how the Centre could justify the hike while claiming that India had become the world’s third-largest economy.

He also alleged that ahead of elections in four states and one Union Territory, the Modi government had repeatedly assured the public that petroleum product prices would not be increased.

“Not even ten days after the election results, prices were increased by more than ₹3. This amounts to a betrayal of public trust,” he said.

Demanding immediate action, Revanth urged the Central Government to withdraw the hike in petrol and diesel prices without delay.
