Rahul Gandhi Will Be INDIA Bloc’s PM Candidate, Says Telangana CM Revanth

Hyderabad, May 15 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday strongly pitched for Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Ministerial candidate of the INDIA bloc, asserting that the Congress party would formally announce his candidature and subsequently seek the alliance partners’ support.

Addressing the Way2News Conclave 2026, the Chief Minister said Rahul Gandhi’s objective was not merely to become Prime Minister, but to bring the Congress party back to power at the national level.

“In the coming elections, Rahul Gandhi will be the Prime Ministerial candidate from the INDIA alliance. Congress will announce it first, and then we will convince the INDIA alliance,” Revanth Reddy said.

He stated that the INDIA bloc would present a common policy document before the people and seek a mandate on governance and national policies.

The Chief Minister also expressed confidence that the Congress party would remain in power from 2024 to 2034.

Revanth Reddy praised the Gandhi family, saying Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had extended considerable encouragement and support to him.

“The Gandhi family has faith in the country,” he remarked.

Speaking about his political journey, Revanth Reddy recalled his decade-long association with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and said N. Chandrababu Naidu continues to maintain cordial relations with him even after his exit from the party.

“It is very rare for leaders to maintain good relations after leaving a party. Before leaving the TDP, I personally met Chandrababu Naidu in Vijayawada and informed him,” he said.

The Chief Minister revealed that he had personally persuaded Rahul Gandhi during a meeting in Vikarabad to accept the idea of becoming Prime Minister.

Drawing a comparison with app-based services, Revanth Reddy said people now expect “Swiggy-style politics”, referring to quick governance and speedy delivery of public services.

Projecting his long-term political vision, he said he would continue serving Telangana until 2034 and work towards ensuring the State contributes ten per cent of India’s GDP.

“I will continue as Chief Minister till 2034. After that, I will give an opportunity to the next generation,” he said.

He further stated that after completing his responsibilities in Telangana, he would contribute at the national level as well.

“I will make Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister and then sit in the chair he offers me,” Revanth Reddy remarked.
