Agneyastra Energetics Breaks Ground for Rs. 1,500 Cr Defence Facility in Andhra Pradesh
Pune, May 15 (TNT): Agneyastra Energetics Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited (KSSL), the defence arm of Bharat Forge Limited, on Friday announced the groundbreaking of its strategic defence manufacturing facility near Madakasira in Sri Sathya Sai district of Andhra Pradesh.
The integrated manufacturing campus, spread across more than 1,000 acres, will be developed with a planned investment of ₹1,500 crore over the next two to four years, the company said in a release.
The facility will incorporate advanced manufacturing technologies, high-safety testing infrastructure and specialised logistics capabilities aimed at strengthening India’s indigenous capabilities in advanced energetics and ammunition systems for modern defence and aerospace applications.
The project is expected to generate around 800 direct jobs and approximately 2,500 indirect employment opportunities, contributing to regional industrial growth while reinforcing Andhra Pradesh’s position as an emerging hub for aerospace and defence manufacturing.
Agneyastra Energetics said the initiative has been launched to address India’s dependence on imported energetics materials through the development of indigenously designed, manufactured and globally compliant solutions.
The company stated that the project aligns with the Government of India’s “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” vision by promoting import substitution, local value creation and technological self-reliance in strategically critical defence materials.
Bharat Forge Limited Chairman and Managing Director Baba Kalyani said India has a significant opportunity to emerge as a globally trusted source for advanced defence systems and critical materials.
He said Agneyastra Energetics represents a strategic step towards building a strong indigenous energetics ecosystem and globally competitive defence manufacturing capabilities catering to both domestic and international markets.
Backed by the Kalyani Group’s expertise in defence manufacturing, metallurgy and systems integration, the company said the facility would incorporate high standards of safety, engineering and industrial governance from the initial phase itself.
Agneyastra Energetics is expected to play a key role in strengthening India’s defence industrial ecosystem, enhancing national security and contributing to the country’s long-term “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision.
