Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital Launches India’s First 240-Slide Digital Pathology System in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, May 14 (TNT): Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute (BIACH&RI) on Thursday launched India’s first Roche Ventana DP 600 Digital Pathology System equipped with a 240-slide scanner, marking a major advancement in cancer diagnostics and digital pathology services.

The advanced diagnostic system, established with support from the ICICI Foundation, was inaugurated by hospital chairman Nandamuri Balakrishna during a special ceremony held at the hospital.

Roche Ventana DP 600 system enables digital scanning and analysis of pathology slides with high precision and faster diagnostic capabilities.

Speaking on the occasion, Balakrishna said the hospital has consistently focused on introducing advanced medical technologies to provide world-class cancer treatment at affordable costs.

He acknowledged the support extended by donors, governments, industrialists and Non-Resident Indians towards strengthening the hospital’s healthcare infrastructure.

Balakrishna also expressed gratitude to the ICICI Foundation for supporting the installation of the new digital pathology system and appealed to donors and institutions to continue supporting the expansion of the hospital’s facilities in Hyderabad as well as the construction of the upcoming cancer hospital project at Thullur in Andhra Pradesh.

Earlier, Dr. Sushila Kodandapani, Head of the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, explained the features of the newly installed digital pathology system. She stated that this is the first 240-slide scanner-based system to be installed in India.

She explained that after conducting blood and tissue examinations, the slides used for testing would be digitally scanned and made accessible to doctors through the new system.

The scanned images can be viewed at nearly 80X magnification, enabling doctors to examine them with exceptional precision and detail, thereby facilitating faster and highly accurate diagnosis, she added.

The event was attended by  BIACH&RI Trust Board Member Nori Dattatreyudu, Trust Board MemberJ S R Prasad, hospitals Medical Director T S Rao, Medical Superintendent Phani Koteswara Rao, Associate Director (Academics) Kalpana Raghunath, doctors, paramedical staff and representatives of the ICICI Foundation.
