Human Service Should Be Life’s Ultimate Purpose, Says Telangana Governor

Hyderabad, May 8 (TNT): Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Friday said service to humanity should be regarded as the ultimate purpose of life and called upon people to actively participate in blood donation and voluntary service activities.

The Governor was addressing World Red Cross Day and World Thalassemia Day celebrations organised by the Indian Red Cross Society, Telangana Branch, at Samskruti Community Hall in Lok Bhavan.

He paid floral tributes to Henry Dunant, founder of the Red Cross Movement, and later inaugurated a blood donation camp and distributed certificates to blood donors in recognition of their contribution.

The Governor also distributed nutrition kits to children suffering from thalassemia and interacted with them and their families.

Addressing the gathering, Shukla said the theme of this year’s observance, “United in Humanity,” reflected society’s collective responsibility to support people in distress and those in need of assistance.

He noted that the Indian Red Cross Society had been rendering humanitarian services since 1920 and that volunteers across all 33 districts of Telangana were actively involved in blood donation drives, health camps, disaster relief and social welfare programmes.

Praising children battling thalassemia, the Governor said their courage and positive spirit despite requiring regular blood transfusions served as an inspiration to society.

He also lauded the parents and family members caring for such children.

The Governor appreciated the contribution of corporate social responsibility (CSR) partners in strengthening healthcare outreach in rural areas and supporting blood donation awareness and humanitarian relief activities.

Invoking the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, he urged citizens to treat service not merely as a responsibility but as one of the highest values in life and appealed to people to work towards building a compassionate and united society.

Referring to tuberculosis cases in the country, Shukla highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “TB Mukt Bharat” and recalled that during his tenure as Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Nikshay Mitras had been appointed in every district to support TB eradication efforts.

Governor’s Special Chief Secretary M. Dana Kishore said a special membership drive would be conducted from May 15 to June 15 to strengthen Red Cross societies across Telangana districts.

Representatives of the Red Cross Society, NGOs and district units participated in the programme.

Meanwhile, Krishna Sai International Charitable Trust donated ₹4 lakh to the Red Cross Society on the occasion of World Red Cross Day.

The cheque was handed over to the Governor at Lok Bhavan by the organisation’s founder, Krishna Sai.
